Alexander Kim, Head of Lotos SEZ JSC, presented the company interested in implementing the project on the territory of the port special economic zone to Mehdi Akuchekian, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Astrakhan. The potential resident plans to build a refrigerated terminal in the Astrakhan port SEZ for the development of transportation of fruit and vegetable products and fruits, including from Iran. This is reported by the press service of SEZ “Lotos”.

As it was noted at the meeting, an important constraint for the launch of active transshipment of Iranian fruit and vegetable products through the Astrakhan region is the lack of necessary refrigerated warehouses. The realization of an investment project on the territory of the Astrakhan port special economic zone will help to solve this problem. A potential resident is considering the construction of a refrigerated terminal with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year.

“This is a Russian company that plans to submit all the necessary documents to obtain the status of a resident of the port SEZ in the near future. The project is promising and will create refrigeration capacity, which the region has not yet had, and the need, as we know, is high,” said Alexander Kim, Director General of JSC SEZ Lotos.

Currently, two residents are registered in the port SEZ. The projects of the first stage of construction of container, oil and grain terminals are being realized. They are aimed at creating modern facilities for the development of cargo transportation along the international transportation corridor “North-South”.
