In August 2024, cargo turnover of the Caspian Basin ports decreased by 7.8% compared to August 2023.
Exports decreased by 20.4% and imports by 5.3%. In transit, 5.6% more cargo was handled than a year earlier. Cabotage increased 2.1 times.
In August 2024, the share of the Caspian basin in the total cargo turnover of all Russian seaports corresponded to 0.9%.
Grain accounted for 30.9% in the cargo turnover structure of Caspian basin ports. The second largest cargo by volume was oil, its share was 26.9%. The share of tare and piece cargoes in August 2024 corresponded to 12.9%.
The highest dynamics was in the segment of other bulk cargoes, transshipment of which grew 5.2 times. Other bulk cargoes were handled 3.9 times more than in August 2023. Food bulk turnover increased by 44.6%.
Most significantly, by 65.4%, the transshipment of ferrous metals decreased. Containerized cargo turnover decreased by 43.5% and grain turnover decreased by 25.6%.
In August 2024, the share of the port of Astrakhan in the total cargo turnover of the Caspian basin was 47.5%, Makhachkala handled 43.7%, and Olya accounted for 8.8%.
